A Warm Welcome from Christina Fox, the Current Chapter President

Welcome to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ACBS! We are honored by the membership of over 300 persons across 7 states and the District of Columbia, and are proud to offer regular virtual & in-person training events, peer consultation groups, and social gatherings. Our priority remains: connecting this amazing community in the name of contextual behavioral science.

Since getting involved in this community, I have been blown away by the passion, values, and clinical excellence of the MAC-ACBS network. This community has relentlessly inspired and supported me to grow into the best human-as-therapist that I can be. I find myself repeatedly standing in awe of the dedication, kindness, and authenticity our community brings to their helping professions. It is my great honor and privilege to serve this brilliant and welcoming community.

If you haven’t already - please! - join us! Browse the website for training or volunteer opportunities and don’t forget to join our thriving listserv. And please feel free to reach out to me if you have any requests or ideas for how our board can support you.

Emily Arnold Fleming (she/her) is a BCBA and professional improviser. Her Masters-level thesis, titled “‘Yes, and… Sr+!’: Effects of Applied Improvisation on Social Engagement as a Reinforcer,” began her post-graduate passion of merging improvisational strategies with behavioral analytic principles by using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Relational Frame Theory to tie the two together. Emily currently holds the position of Company Behavior Analyst for Improv | On and Off the Stage, where she teaches, coaches, and performs improvisational comedy through a behavioral lens. As a Behavior Consultant in Richmond, VA, she works with staff, stakeholders, and clients to help them build flexible skills and connect with their values. Members of our MAC-ACBS community are making a meaningful impact every day—supporting the health and wellness of their clients, communities, our profession, and one another. If you or someone you know has a story to share—how they do what they do, the successes they’ve achieved, or the ways they’re making a difference—consider nominating them/yourself for a Member Spotlight. We are so proud of our members and would be honored to shine a light on the important work you are doing to our extended Mid-Atlantic listserv community!

Your Contributions Matter to Our Collective Community

MAC is a growing community of people – mental and behavioral health therapists, researchers, educators, coaches, healthcare professionals, etc. – who share a common interest in the work that is going on in contextual behavioral sciences including, but not limited to, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational Frame Theory (RFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Functional Analytic Therapy (FAP), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Our overriding mission is to foster the development of contextual behavioral practice, science, and community service within the Mid-Atlantic region (i.e., MD, DC, VA, WV, DE, NC and SC). To that end, we conduct regular clinical trainings, and we’ve facilitated the development of several peer consultation groups in the region. We’re also working to increase member networking and referrals via our member forum. Our aim is to build and support a community among MAC and all ACBS members.
